When you activate a new theme by default WordPress displays your most recent posts on your site’s home page. Many themes are designed with a static front page instead. This “static front page” look is common for users desiring static or welcoming information on the homepage of their site.
The look and contents of the homepage varies from theme to theme.
Setting a static front page
To set a static front page for your site go to Appearance > Customize > Static front page.

Then select the A static page radio button.

Then from the Front Page dropdown menu select the page you want to display as your site’s homepage.
